Sheriff’s Office seeks OHV Comments

2007/2008 Grant is under Construction

The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office is currently developing its draft Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) grant application for the year 2007/2008 that will be submitted to the State of California by September of this year.   The 2007-2008 Grant will provide for OHV/OSV operation, maintenance, resource monitoring, trespass issues, and law enforcement for trails and facilities located within Plumas County.  The grant will also supplement the Sheriff’s Office’s much needed Search and Rescue program. The 2007/2008 Grant is currently under construction but will be available for review at the Sheriff's Office web page at www.pcso.net, by hard copy at each area substation, or at the main office in Quincy no later than August 17, 2007. The Sheriff's Office is actively seeking comments discussing any changes or improvements that need to be made to the program, and to assist the Sheriff's Office with the development of the grant application. For more information contact Sgt. Todd Johns at the Plumas County Sheriff's Office  530-283-6392 or by email at toddjohns@countyofplumas.com.

The Sheriff's Office encourages all users and participants in OHV recreational activities to use trail etiquette whenever riding and to be courteous and respectful of others, as well as respecting the land which they use for their enjoyment. Please obey all OHV laws, pack out your litter, and while enjoying the beautiful trails throughout our county always treat other OHV users and non-motorized recreational enthusiasts with all due respect, avoiding user conflict in order to sustain long term use of the land.

OHV related maps and handouts are available at the Sheriff's Office and substations located in Chester, Greenville and Portola, and are available to members of the public for their use.

Also check our county web site for a link to USFS grid maps of Plumas County .  They include areas that are prohibited to intrusion by Off-Highway Vehicles, such as designated Wilderness Areas.  They soon will include routes and trails for use by Off-Highway and recreational users.  Please take the time to review these maps if you intend to enjoy your Off-Highway Vehicle within Plumas County . There is also a link to a page that contains Off-Highway Vehicle Law Enforcement Information.  The contents of this page are not intended to be construed as complete or precise interpretations.  For complete definitions, refer to the abridged or unabridged codes.  Please review these codes and enjoy a safe and legal outing with your off-Highway Vehicle.
