The Sheriff’s Office Patrol division serves the 22,000 permanent residents of Plumas County with a patrol force of thirty-two sworn personnel. Under the command of the Patrol Commander, the patrol division staffs six sergeants and twenty-one deputies.

Operating out of the main office, the Quincy patrol has three sergeants and six deputies. The areas of Portola, Greenville, and Chester each maintain a substation, staffed with a sergeant and five patrol deputies. In total area covered, the deputies patrol an area of 2,618 square miles, handling approximately 14,000 calls for service each year. The patrol areas of Plumas County are unique, covering forested mountains, high desert plains, wild and scenic rivers, beautiful lakes and rural towns and communities.

In addition to regular patrol duties, the deputies of Plumas County may find themselves working on the Special Weapons and Tactics team, as K-9 officers or investigators. The deputies are highly trained, with three ten hour training days a month and handle most investigations themselves from the initial call to conclusion. Each deputy is also a deputy coroner, responsible for death investigations.  Each patrol deputy is issued a Ford Expedition as their assigned patrol vehicle.  They work 4 ten hour shifts and respond after hours from their homes for emergency call outs.

With a large recreational area of national forest lands, patrol deputies may also find themselves patrolling off-highway, using both ATV’s and snowmobiles in the winter or on boat patrol patrol on one of the many lakes within the county during the summer.  The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division is a progressive, well trained team of motivated individuals with a keen desire to help and serve the communities in which they live.  They live and work in California's most beautiful county.
